Large Group of GRYPHAEA FOSSILS Jurassic Period

Large Group of GRYPHAEA FOSSILS Jurassic Period
Also known by the name Devil's Toenails.

All the fossils shown in the image are included in this purchase. There are two images, one showing the group in a pile and another showing the same group placed out neatly.
Ideal for your own collection, as gifts for children, for resale etc.

These were collected from the River Severn in Gloucestershire, England about 25 years ago and full details of the location will be included with the purchase. The group is a mix of various sizes of the fossil shells ranging from around 4cm to 9cm and includes the main shell form as well as some of the valve shells.

Condition of the shells is as found as you can see in the photo. They have been well washed to remove loose mud.

This batch weighs around 2.9 kilo so they are quite heavy to post so this sale is for UK Mainland only. However, if you are not a UK Mainland resident please contact me to find out how much shipping would be. It is possible for me to send by Surface Post (ship) which will take longer than airmail but you will need to ask first so I can advise you on postage. For Mainland UK I will be posting them by courier and the postage is very reasonable considering the weight.

Thank you for your interest. Any questions feel free to ask.

Large specimen of Cornish Galena in matrix with some Pyrite and quartz crystal vug

A large piece of Galena in natural matrix with some pyrite and quartz crystal vug. This is from Greystones Quarry in Cornwall, UK, collected around 25 years ago. There is a lot of galena as you can see from the scale in the picture, all broken bright faces and some lovely free-standing small quartz crystals in the vug. There are also traces of Iron Pyrite and a flack of Chalcopyrite. This is a lovely location specimen from this site. Please enquire as to price as it is heavy and I will need to calculate the postage for your location.

Specimen of "BRUSH ORE" Hematite with Calcite

This is a particularly nice specimen of Brush Ore which was mined at Clearwell in the Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire, UK.
The ore was named by the ancient miners perhaps because the formations occuring in the rock have ridges which look a bit like a brush. On this piece there are many voids which are mingled with the iron ore and lots of calcite crystals. I have taken three images so you can appreciate the variety of shapes on this specimen. I was given this several years ago. It originates from Virgina in USA and I was told that it is a fossil whale bone which has bite marks from a prehistoric shark. The images show both sides of the rib with the scale and on the right are close up images of the two large bite marks and also there are a group of tiny scratches which look like knawing from some other creature that had sharp teeth.

Specimen of Idocrase (or Axinite) with Green Garnet from Devon, UK

This is a mineral specimen from the Meldon area near Okehampton in Devon, collected many years ago. The surfaces are broken revealing textured surfaces of brown Idocrase (or axinite) with patches of green garnet. The specimen is termed "massive" meaning it is a solid mass of the mineral and does not have any visible crystals. There are also surface patches of some sort of white mineral in places which is not identified. Axinite also occurs in the area so the brown mineral might be axinite or idocrase, I am uncertain. Size of this specimen is approx: 5 x 7 x 3cm
